What is orthopedics?
Orthopedics is a medical specialty that deals with the musculoskeletal system. An orthopedist, or an orthopedic surgeon, is a physician who specializes in treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system - the system of the body that includes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, skin, and any structures related to them.
What is orthopedic surgery?
Orthopedics is the branch of surgery that deals with bones and other bone-related structures. Most of the orthopedic surgery performed follows traumatic accidents (falls, motor vehicle accidents, twisting injuries, and the like), but other surgeries include correction of congenital and developmental limb deformities.
What are common problems in orthopedics?
The most common problems seen by orthopedic surgeons include broken bones, torn tendons and ligaments, and inflamed or sprained joints and muscles. Most of these injuries occur after traumatic accidents during both work and play.
Are there any conditions or parts of the body you do not treat?
Dr. Chun’s practice focuses on disorders of the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle joints. He also treats a large amount of broken bones sustained during sport or traumatic accidents. Dr. Chun does not treat disorders of the spine, including the neck and low back.
How long will it take to schedule an appointment?

How long is the actual office wait time?
Patients can expect the wait time to be anywhere from 20-40 minutes. However, because some patients come in that require more time and services than initially anticipated, delays are possible.
Do I need a referral?
This depends on your insurance type. If your insurance plan allows self-referral (PPO plans), no referral is needed. Other types of plans may require a referral. Check with your insurance carrier or your benefits pamphlet to verify this. Alternatively, feel free to call for an appointment; if a referral is necessary, we can inform you at that time.
How much will my visit cost?
Once your appointment has been established, you will be routed to the pre-registration department who will verify your benefit level, deductibles, out-of-pocket percentages, co-pay amounts, and the need for a referral. We can provide estimates for your copay as well as bill if this information is available.

Will my insurance cover the cost of service?
There is no clear-cut answer to this question because insurance programs vary greatly with respect to services allowed. The patient is responsible for all fees, regardless of insurance coverage. It is customary to pay for office services when they are rendered unless prior arrangements have been made. As a courtesy, we will bill your insurance company. The office staff will be happy to review your insurance coverage with you and answer any questions you may have. Patients with accepted work-related injuries covered by worker's compensation will not be responsible for their bill unless their claim is denied.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Pleas bring your current insurance card and any referrals required by your insurance carrier. Also, bring a list of current medications and any MRI's, X-rays, or any other testing results that have been done related to your appointment with us. You can also fill our pre-registration paperwork to help expedite your registration.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Loose comfortable clothing is most appropriate. Women who are being seen for shoulder problems are encouraged to wear shirts that allow inspection of the skin over the shoulder (tank tops work well). All knee and hip patients are encouraged to wear shorts or clothing that rises above the kneecap.
